It's the holiday season and the time of year when most people's diets go out the window. But with a bit of careful planning and these winning tactics, you can set yourself up for a win in the weight loss stakes. You can eat healthily and stay on track over the Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year period with a bit of effort and planning. And, if weight loss is your goal, we look forward to seeing less of you in the New Year.

Eat Before You Leave

Thinking you can skip a meal successfully to give you more room for freedom at the holiday function will only lead to disaster. Being overly hungry can lead to bad dietary choices and will have you grabbing a high-carb, high-sugar snack just to combat the hunger. You are always better off snacking before you go, so you are in control of your food choices.

Make a Bee Line For the Healthy Food

Yes, there will be a lot of fried food and food options high in carbs and sugar. But that doesn't mean you have to eat it. Look for the healthiest choices possible and aim for vegetables and protein where possible. Sometimes it may be a case of just doing the best where you can. If the food options aren't great, limit the alcohol to keep the calorie count down and maximize your water intake. This will also help control how hungry you feel.

Steer Clear of Trigger Foods

What is the one food that you love to eat but once you start you cannot stop? Whatever that may be, whether cheese, cookies, chocolate, or pastries, stop before you start. Having an understanding of what foods you struggle to say no to, will allow you to steer clear of them altogether. Just move past quickly and fill up on healthy food that will have you looking your best.Lose the Loose Fitting Wear While you may not be 100% happy with your weight, it is easy to forget about your weight loss goals in winter because we are laden in sweaters and loose fitting clothing. So next time you go out, aim for something a little more body conscious to keep reminding yourself of how far you've come and where you want to be. Stick To Your Routine

It may be the silly season, but that doesn't mean you need to lose all self-control. Stick to your regular bedtime routines where possible so if you aren't reaching for high-sugar foods due to sleep deprivation. And don't forget to maintain that fitness regime where you can. It is important that you exercise as close to your regular schedule as possible. Even if you only manage to maintain your weight rather than lose, it is a win-win this holiday season.
