So how can you make resolutions that you will want to do day in day out? The trick is to make your goals smaller in size, so they are more achievable. You want to set resolutions which are challenging yet doable. Here are five of our favorite new year resolutions to make 2017 the best year yet!
Find balance in your routine
While you might be exercising regularly, it is tempting to put all of your eggs in one basket, so to speak. It is important that you mix up your fitness routine to include an alternative exercise. If you prefer aerobic exercise, then attempt some pilates. Or you could do some moderate weight work to help strengthen your muscles. Finding balance will aid some of the monotony you can often experience when it comes to exercising.

Be gentle with yourself
Losing weight and sticking to an exercise and health program can be difficult, especially when you are dealing with stress at home or in the workplace. Be kind to yourself. If you skip a session because you are too busy, that’s okay in moderation. Take the next opportunity to revisit as soon as possible. A bad day does not mean you have to give up altogether.
Attempt a different activity
To increase the adventure element of your weight loss or maintenance plan, try something new. 2017 is your year to shine. Grab a friend and tackle an unfamiliar hobby. Hiking, tennis, horseback riding, surfing – something that will push your skills, allow you to have fun and enable you to reach your fitness goals. Being fit and healthy definitely should not equal boring.
Jot it down on paper
Write down your plans and maintain a log of how you are progressing. It can be an incredible motivator when you aren’t feeling as keen to step on the StairMaster. Note your feelings, thoughts, weights and measurements just to see how far you have come. You can even keep a photo journal to start seeing the small differences in your body shape and BMI. They add up quickly to bring positive results.
Be active whenever you can
Unplanned exercise can boost your health aims immensely. Instead of driving to the store, walk. Do an extra couple of laps around the block. Extend your jog by an additional five minutes. Perhaps you could fit in a 15-minute yoga session while the kids are away? These little fitness snippets will also counteract those days when finding moments to exercise can be stressful.
