When a new year begins, we are so full of optimism and excitement. However, this quickly fades, and we return almost immediately to our old patterns. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Here are five tips to keep you organized regarding your weight loss regime and motivated all year round for a healthier way of life.

Write a food diary

Keeping a journal and noting everything you eat can be helpful to any weight loss program. It can enable you to analyze food patterns that you may not be aware of and point you in the direction of where you could do better. Don’t forget to note down those foods that you wish you hadn’t eaten – it’s a great reminder of how far you have come in your weight loss and healthy lifestyle journey.

Pick an exercise you enjoy

Losing weight does not have to be difficult. And you don't have to suffer through a gym class that does not hold your interest either. In order for you to want to do exercise, you have to find a method of keeping fit you actually enjoy. Fun needs to be included on some level, even if it means attending classes with your friends to keep your happiness levels up.

Source a new healthy recipe each week

It is so easy to get stuck in our ways and quite often we break our diets simply because we are bored with what we are eating. Knowing that in advance, however, means you can counteract it. So don’t get bored. Try to make one new low fat, low cal recipe every week and serve it up to your friends and family. And if you require inspiration, Google can definitely be a huge source of information.

Take a water bottle with you wherever you go

The majority of us don’t drink enough water on a daily basis. Why not choose a fabulous water bottle and take it with you whenever you go? Drinking more water not only aids your weight loss but it also fills you up quicker so you don’t feel like eating as much. If you feel dehydrated, have dry lips or seem a little peckish, reach for the water bottle first.

Plan time in your schedule for cooking and shopping

If you shop when you are hungry and cook when you are tired, then corners will be cut and high calorie meals and snacks consumed. Make sure you have your shopping list ready to go before you set off on your grocery trip. Leave the elaborate meals for when you know you have time to prepare, otherwise best-laid plans will be lost, and easy to reach snacks consumed.
