Get rid of the junk food
Out of sight, out of mind definitely works here. If you cannot see it, then you are less likely to crave it. Get rid of the unhealthy food choices and stock up on better pantry options. Having junk food in the house just makes it even more difficult for you to stay on track. Don’t even try to convince yourself that you won’t eat the chocolate if it is sitting in the fridge – we have all been down that road!
Add an extra vegetable to each meal
It is easy to become overwhelmed with any large dietary changes. So smart small and work your way up. Add one extra vegetable to each meal wherever possible. Even try vegetables that you may not be as familiar with. Vegetables, with their rainbow colors, make meals look more attractive, and it will boost your immune system and give you a burst of good nutrients.
Do some form of exercise every day
Whether you are walking, stretching or doing yoga, any exercise is healthy and great for your body. Exercise can curb those cravings and take your mind off eating food. It will also burn up calories and help your overall fitness. Try to incorporate a little exercise into your lifestyle every day.
Keep healthy snacks handy
If you get hungry while out and about, your good intentions will immediately go out the window. The same applies to grocery shopping before you have had lunch or dinner. Keep healthy snacks in your handbag, so you don’t sway to temptation and regret your food choices. Always be prepared by toting a small selection of healthy snacks wherever you go.
Stay hydrated
Water is necessary to keep the body hydrated and functioning well. Therefore, try to keep a water bottle handy and fill up as regularly as you can. Drinking water will also curb your urge to eat as your stomach will feel fuller.
Keep a food record
Maintaining a food record or diary will help you stay on track. Write down everything you ate and drank – even the food that you should not have and learn from it. That way you can track your mood, your appetite and your weight loss in one go.
Slow down
We are always in a hurry, particularly when it comes to our eating. If we slow down to eat, then our brain will get the message that we are full. Be mindful of every mouthful and put your fork down in between bites. There is no rush to finish your meal. Enjoy it!
