Losing weight is difficult, and losing weight quickly is even harder. The opportunity for rapid weight loss is probably one of the main reasons why many people consider bariatric surgery, which is also called weight loss surgery. However, losing weight without surgery is often a much better option for most people. When people choose to closely follow a healthy and balanced diet combined with regular, moderate exercise, they can safely and effectively lose weight – and keep it off.
At Fit Medical Weight Loss, we can get you started on a safe and effective weight loss plan without the risky (and expensive) surgery. Our weight loss program is 100% medically supervised; we provide you with a complete medical weight evaluation before you start your personalized weight loss program. We also offer support, guidance, and education every step of the way.

You can start losing weight and seeing results immediately without any of the pain, recovery time, or other inconveniences of bariatric surgery.
We recommend a low-carb, low calorie diet for weight loss, and we take time to teach our patients how they can prepare and eat real food. This makes it much easier for our patients to not only lose the excess pounds successfully, but to also keep them off in the long run.
Our patients really like the choice of a prescription appetite suppressant or a natural amino acid appetite suppressant which helps to remove their hunger and cravings making it easier for them to stick to our weight loss program and reach their goal weight.
Sounds like a win-win, don’t you think?
Does Bariatric Surgery Work Over The Long Term?
A fair number of patients who get Bariatric surgery keep only 50% of the weight lost off after 10 years and many gain all of their lost weight back. Many of our patients at FIT Medical Weight Loss have had these surgeries.
However, they came to us because after an initial impressive weight loss following the surgery, they started seeing the pounds start creeping back on again.
The Mayo Clinic states that bariatric procedures such as gastric bypass or other weight loss surgeries may be the recommended option in the following cases:
• Your body mass index (BMI) is 40 or higher (extreme obesity).
• Your BMI is 35 to 39.9 (obesity), and you have a serious weight-related health problem, such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure or severe sleep apnea. In some cases, you may qualify for certain types of weight-loss surgery if your BMI is 30 to 34 and you have serious weight-related health problems.
However, just like any other surgical procedure, weight loss surgery also poses potential short and long-term risks to your health. Recovery from bariatric surgery takes time, and some people even require a hospital stay for 3-5 days afterwards. It can sometimes take months before patients can resume normal daily activities after bariatric surgery.
As well, there are strict requirements on how much and what you can eat and drink for at least 12 weeks afterwards – and often longer. Most patients must follow a liquid diet, then slowly introduce “regular” foods back into their diets.
Unfortunately, there is also the possibility, as mentioned above, that the weight loss surgery may not produce the long-term results you hoped for.
Some patients who go through bariatric surgery may see significant weight loss results in a short amount of time. However, all of them must also be willing to make permanent changes to their eating and exercise habits in order to keep the weight off - which is no different than the lifestyle changes recommended by us at Fit Medical Weight Loss.
