We all know how important it is to eat foods that are good for us - whether for weight loss, a healthier lifestyle, or both. Some foods are definitely better than others, and there are some foods you’ll want to avoid altogether. FIT Medical Weight Loss encourages you to follow a diet that is very low in carbohydrates for losing weight. This means you’ll want to remove the usual “suspects” from your diet – foods that are filled with sugars and refined carbs. There are some foods you may think are okay, but you may be surprised to find out they are not such good choices after all.

A recent article via Women’s Health, “14 Foods Nutritionists Never Eat,” provides a list of foods you may consider removing from your diet. You may already be avoiding these foods if you’re dieting to lose weight.

The following are a few of the 14 food products that nutritionists advise against:

1) Processed meats and/or cheeses

They contain too much sodium along with some scary preservatives.

2) Non-dairy creamer

"It's completely without nutrient density of any kind, and it can increase your risk for heart disease." —Kristin Kirkpatrick, M.S., R.D., a wellness manager at the Cleveland Clinic Wellness Institute

3) GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms)

These are foods that have been modified through genetic engineering techniques. Although they are considered "safe" to eat, a lot of controversy surrounds the entire process. When you choose organic and/or local fruits and vegetables, however, you never have to worry about where your food has come from.

4) Cold cereals

Cold cereals usually contain high amounts of added sugars. They also make poor dietary choices for weight loss due to the high levels of refined carbs they contain.

5) Sugary beverages (including fruit juices with added sugar)

Once again, it’s the sugars and unnecessary carbs that make these poor choices - especially when you’re trying to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight. You’ll be much better off drinking water or other sugar-free beverages, and saving those extra calories for meals and/or snacks.
