Being on a diet while working in an office can be really difficult. First, there’s the convenience of grabbing a quick snack from a vending machine. It also seems there’s always a co-worker with candy at his or her desk, or co-workers who like to bring in baked goods. Around the holidays, your office may have potluck or catered lunches. And don’t forget about all those invitations you receive to go out for lunch with well-meaning co-workers. You may find it difficult to ignore all these tasty temptations, especially when you’re trying to lose weight.

With a little knowledge and a hefty dose of determination, you can avoid all those dieting obstacles and stay on your weight loss plan when you work in an office environment.

These tips will help you stay on track and continue losing weight:

1) Eat breakfast at home

When you start your day with a healthy, filling breakfast, you’ll be less tempted to snack on unhealthy food choices later in the day.

2) Bring your own snacks to the office

Pack snacks that fit into your weight loss diet plan, especially “free” foods such as cucumber or celery slices.

3) Pack your own lunch

You’ll be less tempted to splurge at the office cafeteria or nearby restaurants when you bring your own healthy, delicious lunches. Prepare and/or cook the foods in advance to save time in the mornings.

4) Choose healthy options when you do go out for lunch

Most places offer salads or salad bars. Grilled chicken or hard boiled eggs are good sources of protein for you to combine with your salad vegetables. Be careful with the dressings and toppings you choose though, or bring your own, just in case.

5) Avoid all sodas – regular or diet

Instead, drink plenty of water. If you’re really needing a caffeine kick during the day, keep a stash of green tea at your desk. Staying hydrated is important for your health, and it also helps with losing weight.
