Are your lips thinning as you age or do you have naturally thin lips? Have you been daydreaming about having fuller, plumper lips? If so, you’re not alone. According to data recently released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), more than 27,000 lip procedures took place in the U.S. last year (2015), with a lip procedure being performed approximately every 20 minutes.
This was a new record for this type of procedure. Overall, the percentage of women who have had lip augmentations has increased to 43 percent since 2000. Although some women may worry about ending up with overinflated lips like actress Goldie Hawn’s character, Elise, in the movie The First Wives Club, the reality is much different. Read on to learn the truth about lip fillers and why more women are choosing this method for lip augmentation.

Testimonials
Are you unsure as to whether lip fillers are right for you? We've collected a few real-life testimonials from others (including some who were also hesitant at first), but who ended up feeling great about their decision:
"I had never had filler injections before so I was nervous about having the procedure done. I work in the entertainment field and it's not uncommon to see cases of the dreaded "duck lips." The thought of having overly plumped lips petrified me so I did my research, read reviews and considered whether I really wanted to take the chance...I'm so glad I did. I love, love my lips. I used to have fuller lips but as I got older they began to lose volume and putting on my red lipstick wasn't the same! Now I feel amazing and my red lipstick just pops!
They look so natural. Unless I tell them that I've had fillers most people don't have a clue which is what you should aim (for)." ~

"I was really nervous about trying Juvederm in the lips but decided to just go for it. I am so happy I did. One syringe and my lips are exactly how I want." ~ Marcia H.
"Let me start off my saying I could not be any more happier with my results. I went from avg lips to kissable ones. I love looking in the mirror." ~ Jazilynne

Lip Fillers: Questions and Answers
Q. Why should I consider lip fillers?
A. Over time, your face changes in many ways. This may be due to environmental factors, genetics, or part of the normal aging process. Some women, however, have naturally thin lips and may simply desire more fullness.
Q.Is JUVÉDERM® safe?
A. Yes. This brand has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for lip augmentation. The filler’s injectable gel is comprised of Hyaluronic Acid which occurs naturally in the body. It also dissolves naturally with time and is integrated into your body’s tissues. Over time, the molecules dissolve and turn into water as they depart without leaving any trace in your body.
Q. How long does the procedure take?
A. You’ll be surprised by how little time this procedure takes – typically only 15-30 minutes is required for the injections. Afterward, the patient will sit in the office for 10 to 15 minutes and then they’re good to go about most of their regular daily activities.
Q. How long will the effects of lip fillers last?
A. Although results may vary based on the brand your doctor uses and with optimal treatment, 78% (58/74) of people treated experienced improvement in satisfaction with the look and feel of their lips one year later. When treated again after one year, patients needed less product to achieve their results.
Q. Is the procedure painful?
A. Surprisingly, the injections are relatively painless, or at least a lot less painful than you’d expect when needles are involved. JUVÉDERM® injectable gel is now formulated with lidocaine, a common anesthetic used to improve the comfort of treatment.
It's important to note as well that for many women, one syringe provides beautiful, natural-looking and lasting results. Other women who want fuller lips may need two or more syringes. However, you won't need to worry about the injectors giving you too much filler.
Q. Are there any side effects?
A. Our injectors use the Allergan brand JUVÉDERM® and most of the people who received the injections have been quite satisfied with their results and have had only positive things to say about their experience. They especially love how they look afterward.
The most common side effects include tenderness, swelling, firmness, lumps/bumps, bruising, pain, redness, discoloration, and itching.
