1) You might read or hear that you should eat small meals every 2-3 hours to boost your metabolism, but this is not necessarily true. Studies have come out in the last year showing that it doesn't make any difference whether you eat several times a day or once a day. Instead, it’s the amount of calories you eat in a day and the type of calories that matter - not how frequently you eat.
2) Make sure you’re including adequate amounts of lean protein - and reducing the amount of carbs you eat - as part of your fat-burning diet plan. Similar to the first point above, it’s the amount of protein you eat per day, rather than how often you’re eating it, that really matters when it comes to burning fat and losing weight.
3) Think you need to avoid fat to burn fat? Ironically, you need fats (the healthy ones, of course) to help you lose weight. Many many studies have shown that including fats in your diet is not an issue for healthy weight loss. Reducing carbs is the key, so there’s no need to worry about fat.
4) Reducing calories is an important part of burning fat and losing weight. However, it’s crucial that you get enough of the right calories. Otherwise, your body kicks into “survival mode,” and will start burning muscle along with fat.
5) You do need some carbs as part of a balanced diet. However, you’ll want to make sure you’re getting them from the right sources (not sugar or refined grains), and in very low amounts, for optimal fat-burning and weight loss. Carbs cause your body to produce insulin for 4-6 hours after eating them, rather than just 1/2 an hour if you eat no carbs. Also, insulin forces extra calories into your fat cells.
6) The best way to lose weight is to follow a low-carb diet and do cardio for 30-60 minutes several times a week. Doing this allows you to burn fat and retain muscle - so you look and feel your best while losing weight.
