Zumba: A Great Way to Get Your Cardio On!

If you’re looking for a fun workout that can help you with your weight loss goals and get in shape, then you may want to learn more about Zumba. Zumba has been around since 2001. However, this fitness routine has only been growing in popularity over the years, and is currently one of the hottest exercise trends in the U.S. A typical workout combines dance moves, Latin/International music, interval training, and resistance training. Zumba offers several different levels and variations, so it’s easy to find a routine that matches your personal fitness level and interests.

Zumba is a great cardio workout that can help you achieve your weight loss goal. One class typically lasts for about an hour. This fits nicely into the preferred amount of moderate weekly exercise when you’re losing weight - 30-45 minutes, three times a week.

When getting started with Zumba, there are a few things to keep in mind: 

1) Don’t be afraid to experiment with different classes to find the one that’s right for you. You can either join a class or find Zumba workout routines on YouTube or DVD. You can even find Zumba programs for Xbox or Wii. 

2) You don’t have to be a professional dancer to be good at Zumba, but you should know that dance moves are part of the workout. Being familiar with the cha cha, salsa, merengue, and basic hip-hop moves won’t hurt. 

3) Although there’s no right or wrong attire, you’ll be most comfortable wearing lightweight clothing since you’ll be heating up quickly. Choose exercise shoes which are already worn in (the lighter the tread, the better.) You may want to invest in a pair of dance sneakers so you can slide and glide – regular sneakers often have too much grip. 

4) Make sure to bring a towel and plenty of water. You’re going to burn calories and you’re going to sweat. 

5) Zumba, by design, is an aerobic workout. The more you move, the more you experience its aerobic benefits. So don’t worry about looking silly and don’t be afraid to dance! You’ll have more fun and burn more calories. 

Let loose, use your arms, and shake your booty. And, once you have the basic moves down, you can add your own flair to make your workout even more fun!
