Hot Ginger Tea
Great for the winter weather. Ginger has many wonderful medicinal qualities and can help with digestion and can assist with weight loss.
Ingredients:
- 3 ounces thinly sliced ginger root
- 1 cup water
Method:
Boil water and ginger and then strain. Sweeten to taste.

Hot Apple Cider
Hot apple cider and cinnamon smells delicious as it wafts through the house. It makes a perfect pick-me-up in the evening and a great winter warmer.
Ingredients
- 1 cup low-cal apple cider
- 1 cinnamon stick
Method:
Heat apple cider to the desired temperature. Add a stick of cinnamon.
Hot Cinnamon Coffee
Mix up your coffee routine by adding cinnamon to your cup. Not only does it smell great but it tastes delicious, too.
Ingredients
- 1 cup coffee
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons nonfat milk (or milk substitute)
Method
Brew coffee. Mix in cinnamon and milk (or milk substitute). Sweeten if desired and sprinkle with cinnamon.
Hot Lemon Tea
Sore throats, colds, blocked sinuses and headaches can all benefit from a cup of hot lemon tea. A great drink to keep the cold weather at bay.
Ingredients
- 1 green tea bag
- 1 cup hot water
- 3 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons agave syrup
- 1 cinnamon stick
Method:
Steep tea bag in hot water. Discard tea bag and stir in lemon and vanilla extract. Stir in agave syrup and garnish with cinnamon stick.
Warm Spiced Coconut Almond Milk
This is a hot drink with a difference and will warm you from your head to your toes. The scent of coconut oil, vanilla and ginger is an absolute delight.
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
- ½ teaspoon fresh ginger
- ½ or pure vanilla
- Pinch of nutmeg
- Pinch of cayenne pepper
- 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
Method:
Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a simmer, stirring often. Serve warm.
London Fog
Earl Grey tea has been around for a while, and if you are yet to try it, now is the time. It has a distinct aromatic taste that can be quite addictive. One cup and you may never turn back.
Ingredients
- 1 or 2 Earl Grey tea bags
- 4 ounces hot water
- 8 ounces almond milk (or substitute)
- 1 teaspoon raw honey (or honey substitute)
- Dash of vanilla
Method:
Steep the tea bags in hot water for approximately five minutes. Discard tea bags. Combine tea in a blender with remaining ingredients and blend on high until combined.
Vanilla Chai Tea Latte
Made popular in the upmarket coffee shops, it’s time to try this little number at home. So delicious – one cup will not be enough.
Ingredients
- 2 cups water
- 2 peppercorns
- 3 cloves (whole)
- ⅛ teaspoon nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon ground cardamom
- ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 black tea bags
- 1 tablespoon low-cal sugar substitute
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup milk (or milk substitute)
Method:
Combine water, peppercorns, cloves, cardamom, ginger, nutmeg and a cinnamon stick in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil and boil for approximately five minutes. Turn off the heat and place tea bags in water. Steep for five minutes. Stir in sugar substitute and vanilla. Heat milk or milk substitute in the microwave for 15 seconds on medium heat to avoid curdling and stir into tea. Serve immediately.
Sage Tea
The perfect hot drink to ward off those coughs and colds. When you feel the first signs coming on, brew yourself a pot. You won’t regret it!
Ingredients:
- 1½ cups hot water
- ½ teaspoon dried sage
- ½ teaspoon dried thyme
- ¼ teaspoon fresh lemon zest
- Juice from half lemon
- Honey (or honey low-cal alternative) to taste
Method:
Combine hot water, sage, thyme, and fresh lemon zest. Cover and let the mixture steep for approximately 5-15 minutes. The longer, the better. Strain into a separate glass. Add lemon juice and honey, and serve immediately.
Hot Cocoa
It’s not winter without at least one cup of hot cocoa. This is a low-fat family favorite that will make you forget that winter is even here. It warms the heart and the soul.
Ingredients:
- 1½ cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons sweetener
- 3 tablespoons water
- 1 cup milk or milk alternative
- 1 splash of pure vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon arrowroot powder
Method:
Combine cocoa powder, sweetener and water in a small saucepan. Heat on low, constantly stirring so paste doesn’t stick. After 1-2 minutes, add in your milk of choice and vanilla extract. Mix together and add arrowroot powder. Whisk until thickens slightly and drink is warmed through.
Sugar-Free Russian Tea
This recipe will ensure you have Russian Tea always on hand. Just prepare a serving as and when you need it.
Ingredients
- 4½ teaspoons sugar-free orange drink mix
- 3½ teaspoons sugar-free lemonade mix
- Artificial sweetener equivalent to 16 teaspoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground cloves
Method:
Combine all ingredients and mix well. Store in an airtight container until required. To prepare one serving, add 1/4 teaspoon of mix to 3/4 cup of hot water. Stir well and enjoy.
