You may feel that work can often hinder your weight loss efforts, but it doesn’t have to be that way. While your health and well-being are important, there are some things you can do at work to ensure that you are focused and staying healthy at work. For the most part, it is all about creating good habits. If you can set yourself up for success by adding some of these into your workday, then you will be better off for it.
Eat Healthy
Workplaces, particularly offices, are well-known for bringing in stodgy unhealthy, carb-laden food and this does not help your diet one iota. It is important that you learn to say no when the cupcakes and danishes grace the boardroom and aim to eat healthy to ensure your continued weight loss. It only takes one bite to throw you off your diet so keep your steel-focused approach and avoid them as much as possible.

Bring your Lunch from Home
The only real way that you are going to be able to control what you eat is to bring your lunch from home. This will not only help you save money (which is a bonus), but it will also enable you to stay on your track. If you have healthy food surrounding you at all times, you will eat it. Bring more than you think you may need just in case you find yourself mid-afternoon for a sugar rush. You can always eat the leftovers for dinner, or bring it to work the next day.
Keep Healthy Snacks on your Desk
If you are unable to avoid the areas where the food is constantly laying in wait for you, then you have two choices. One, eat the healthiest thing available – and quite often that means nothing – or two, keep a stash of healthy food on or near your desk. Bring your own food to the event so you can join in the fun. It’s all about self-control, and trying to make the best choices on any given day. Some days, that may seem impossible, but all you can do, is try your best.
Drink Water
When you are busy, it is easy to forget to maintain your water intake. When you are thirsty, you can become sluggish and drowsy, and your concentration can be affected. Keep a glass of water on your desk and drink continuously every day. Staying hydrated is very important from a health perspective and will tackle dehydration and help stave off hunger pangs. Aim for approximately six glasses of water a day if you can manage it.
Skip the Sugar
Workplaces tend to be heavy on the coffee and tea culture, and for the most part, that is perfectly fine. If you are going to drink coffee or tea to help you through the day, then watch your sugar intake. One or two teaspoons of sugar can seriously add up. Instead, aim for stevia or some kind of low-fat sweetener if you must sweeten your mug. Skip the heavy creamers too, as that can also add up to unnecessary calories at the end of the workday.
Maintain regular movement
Move where you can and when you can. If you have a job which requires sitting down a lot, then it is essential that you move as much as possible. Stretch when you feel your body getting sore and walk up the stairs instead of taking the elevator. Try to get out during every lunch break, even if you don’t necessarily need to, just to get a breath of fresh air and some exercise. It will do you a world of good and help maintain your focus right through to the end of the day.
