Dieting over winter and the holiday season can be tricky, but as we enter 2018, it is time to readdress the situation and come up with a plan. There are many reasons why we struggle to stick to our diet and, sometimes the truth is, we are our own worst enemy. Think about what may be affecting your success rate.
Are you stressed?
Stress can adversely alter your willingness to eat healthily or stay on track. When you are concerned about factors in your life, it is much easier to reach for junk food than it is to take the time to prepare healthy and fresh meals. Stress eating is very common and can rapidly affect weight gain if not nipped in the bud. Stress can also influence your ability to sleep and make the best choices for your lifestyle.

What can you do?
Try to reduce the amount of stress that is in your life. Sometimes that is easier said than done. If you know you are stress eating, then minimize the amount of junk food stored in your cupboards. Keep a supply of healthy vegetables in the refrigerator and always have one or two pre-prepared meals on the go. If you are looking for a quick fix, then it is just a case of reheating a meal for a couple of minutes and will help you avoid bad decision making.
Are you time-limited?
We seem to be busier than ever and our perceived time limitations mean that we are making poor food choices. Grabbing takeout seems an easier option on those days when we can’t manage to find time to prepare a meal or are just too tired to make an effort.
What can you do?
When you are busy, you have to be super organized to fit everything in. You need to become super-efficient with your grocery list, so it means only one trip to the store. Prepare your food in bulk to reduce your need for fast food and junk food. If you are surrounded by healthy food, then you have no choice but to eat it.
Are you surrounded by unhealthy food?
If you work in an office environment, then you may find there is unhealthy food whichever way you turn. Many offices now have snack machines and the amount of unnecessary carbs served up in the way of donuts, pastries and cakes can be just ridiculous. Sometimes it may seem easier to go with the flow than to just say no.
What can you do?
It is worth trying to speak to those in charge to offer healthy food choices in meetings and during work events. Healthy eating will have a positive effect on all the workers and help increase their motivation and workload. If they won’t budge, then you will have to reduce the amount of time you spend around the unhealthy food and make sure you keep a stash of your own super healthy treats on hand.
Do you have a sweet tooth?
Sometimes it is just hard to say no to a favorite sweet or treat, right? Do you love chocolate, cake or ice cream? Your willpower may be an issue, and you just cannot say no when it is placed in front of you. Curbing that desire for sugar may seem impossible, and you just don’t know where to start to make things right.
What can you do?
Firstly, you may wish to consider swapping sugar for a low-cal substitute. If you cannot say no to sugar-filled treats, reducing sugar is a great start. Keep those foods you absolutely love out of the kitchen and try to find healthy substitutes to fill the need. When the desire is just too strong, go outside for a walk or do something to take your mind off it. Opt for fruit over sweet treats and focus on making healthier food choices.
There are many reasons why you may be sabotaging your own efforts, and it doesn’t help, if you don’t have the support of caring and helpful individuals in place. This year, it is time to make yourself a priority and do what is best for you. Contact FIT Medical Weight Loss for information on weight loss, nutrition, Botox and fillers.
