Being as fit and healthy as you can should always be at the top of our priority list. But unfortunately, it is only when we are at our sickest, that our health seems to become our number one priority. But it doesn't have to be this way. Let's not take our health for granted any longer and aim for well-intentioned New Year's resolutions that we can succeed at.
Create a weekly meal plan
Regardless of how busy you are, having a meal plan will just make things easier all around. It will ensure that your shopping list is up to date when you next head out to the supermarket, and you will know exactly what you are eating when. Meal prepping becomes easy when you know in advance what you are cooking, and you don't have to do the last minute dash to shops after work because you have don't have that one particular ingredient in the pantry to prepare tonight's dinner. If you only have one New Year's resolution this year, this is a great place to start.

Appreciate your prebiotics and probiotics
Healthy guts are important, and it is about time we gave this issue more priority. So what can you do about it? While probiotics are better well known than prebiotics, increasing both probiotics and prebiotics will help grow and balance the bacteria in your gut. Probiotics are found in kimchi, sauerkraut, tempeh, and miso. Prebiotics are found in garlic, leeks, artichokes, asparagus, bananas, pistachios, and soybeans. Make it a new year priority to increase both to maintain a healthy gut.
Reduce the amount you eat out
Rather than planning date nights out, put the focus back on prepping and cooking a healthy gourmet meal in. You will have more control over what you are consuming and can control the amount of fat and sugar is actually in the dish. We get so used to ordering takeout and dining out, that we have lost the motivation to research and prepare delicious home cooking. Make it a resolution to eat in more often and focus on the company of good friends.
Empty the pantry of sweets
The fewer sweet treats in your pantry, the less you will be tempted to consume them. It's a no-brainer. If you like to snack then make sure you have plenty of low-fat snackable foods that aren't high in carbohydrates, fat and sugar. Do some healthy baking and stock the pantry with treats that are made with sweetener instead. Don't kid yourself that your willpower is enough not to eat the chocolate in the cupboard. It definitely is more of a case of out of sight, out of mind when it comes to dieting and losing weight.
