Sometimes it can feel like your appetite has a mind of its own which can be frustrating, especially while you are trying to lose weight. Some days it doesn’t matter what you do to take your mind off it, you are still hungry. Ideally you want to crush those cravings before they take hold and you end up eating something you regret. Here are some easy ways to curb your hunger, without adding unnecessary calories to your daily diet.

Drink more

Water is great for your body day and night and can help reduce your desire to eat. In fact, drinking water before a meal will curb your desire to eat as much at the dinner table. Sipping on a cup of coffee or tea can also take your mind off the fact you are hungry. Coffee, in particular, can help boost your metabolism and suppress your appetite. As always, drink in moderation as you don’t want to be left feeling jittery from caffeine over-stimulation.

Eat mindfully

At meal times, it is important not to rush. Take your time, look at your food and eliminate any and all distractions. Focus on your plate, and how much food you are consuming so you only eat until you are full. Research shows that eating mindfully can give you more pleasure at meal time and reduce binge eating behavior in the long-term.

Stay healthy

If you let your hunger go on for too long, you just may end up giving in to temptation. Snack on healthy food options or FIT Medical Weight Loss’s free foods to keep those hunger pangs at bay. Eating when you are hungry from a carefully selected list of healthy foods can help you avoid picking up high-calorie foods on the run. Always aim for low-calorie or no-calorie options where possible.

Exercise regularly

Getting out and being active can actually reduce your appetite. Keeping busy will allow you to think of food a lot less. It is when we slow down or are enjoying our favorite television show that thoughts of food enter our head. Exercise regularly can reduce your desire to consume higher calorie foods and help you stick to your weight loss program.

Reduce stress

This may be easier said than done at times, but stress can be a big cause of overeating. Minimize stress, and you will see a significant improvement in your diet, particularly when it is combined with regular sleep routines and healthy food patterns. Reducing stress will help decrease your food cravings, increase fullness and even protect against issues such as obesity and depression.
