Culinarian’s Day is celebrated on 25 July and is a special day for those who love to cook. Whether you cook for one, or a dozen, or are a chef in a restaurant, Culinarian’s Day is a national celebration for food lovers to gather around the table and enjoy fresh, healthy food. So what can you do to celebrate this fun day?

Firstly, if you have an extraordinary cook in your life, then acknowledge their skills and talents with a card. You can even don the chef hat and prepare a scrumptious meal for them. Alternatively, you can gather all the people you love and cook a delicious meal or take them out for a meal, on you.

It doesn’t really matter how you celebrate Culinarians Day because it is purely a day of enjoyment centered around food.

As it is summer time, you might want to consider a dish such as grilled clams served up with your favorite salad. Clams are a good source of iron, phosphorus, potassium, zinc, copper, manganese and selenium and are delicious, too! If you are a seafood lover and like the sound of the recipe, then read on!

Grilled Clams in Foil

Yields 2 servings

219 calories, 13 g carbs, 1 g fat, & 22.5 g protein

I am all for simplicity, particularly in summer, when I would rather hang out with my friends than spend time over the hot stove. This dish is the perfect compromise for the season and is delicious too.

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium zucchini cut in 1-inch pieces
  • 5 cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1 clove garlic, sliced
  • 3 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 20 littleneck or cherrystone clams
  • 1 tablespoon dry white wine
  • Crushed red pepper flakes, optional

Directions:

1.      Preheat the grill to high heat.

2.      Make foil packets. Tear off 2 18” sheets of Reynolds Wrap Heavy-Duty or Non-Stick Aluminum Foil.

3.      In a medium bowl combine the zucchini, tomatoes, garlic, 2 teaspoons of the olive oil, 1/4 teaspoon salt and black pepper to taste.

4.      Place 10 clams on the center of each foil sheet. Divide the vegetables, then top with crushed red pepper flakes. Drizzle the remaining 1/2 teaspoon oil over each and 1/2 tablespoon wine over both.

5.      Bring up the long sides of the foil, so the ends meet over the food. Double fold the ends, leaving room for heat to circulate inside. Double fold the two short ends to seal the packet tight, so no steam escapes.

6.      Grill covered over high heat, until the clams open, 8 to 10 minutes. Use gloves or tongs to remove and carefully open. If you wish to bake in the oven, preheat the oven to 425F and cook about 10 minutes.
