Fasting: How Does It Work?

Looking to kick-start your weight loss journey? Fasting, when done appropriately, is a quick way to get your weight loss into high gear. There are a few different strategies to this. Here's a few things to consider before beginning fasting.

Fasting methods. There are some easier fasting methods, such as designating an 8 hour period in the day when you are allowed to eat. More intense fasts can go from 24-36 hours without eating anything at all. Consider your options and decide what's best for you.

Permitted intake. Non-caloric beverages are acceptable. Water, coffee, and tea are all good for this. Not only will this keep you hydrated, but continual liquid intake will help you curb your hunger.

Level of health. It's important to be generally healthy and physically prepared for fasting. It is NOT recommended for children, older adults, pregnant women, or people with other health concerns.

Professional input. If you aren't sure if fasting is right for you, or how to go about it, consulting with a professional may be a good idea. They can go over the pros and cons with you, make recommendations, and verify that your body is prepared for it.
