Food preparation enables you to start the day, or the week, off right. One of the best-kept secrets when it comes to eating healthy is to have a plan. If you believe that you will stay on track without having a shopping list, a meal wish list for the week, or any food preparation, then you will be in for a surprise. Without preparation, you are more to likely to open your cupboard and make bad choices, especially when those cupboards are bare.
Another thing you need to know about dieting is that if you don’t have it in the cupboard, or even in the house, then you can’t eat it. What’s the point of buying chocolate and then spending all of your day trying not to think about it? If it’s not in the cupboard, then you cannot succumb to those urges and devour it in one sitting.

Prepping your food beforehand will help with portion control and ensure you are sticking to your healthy eating goals. By measuring and weighing all that you eat, and prepping in advance, you know exactly how much you should be eating, will eat, and did eat. It takes the guesswork out of it, and you can be 100% certain that you ate as per your intentions.
So what are some ways you can ensure healthy food is available at your fingertips?
Buy frozen food
Frozen food such as fruits and vegetables can be easy to use and convenient to cook with. Of course, fresh is best but if it ensures you will stick to your diet and involves less preparation time meaning you are more likely to cook with it, then add it to your shopping list.
Cook for the week ahead
If you are busy during the week, then cook up a big batch of soup or a casserole and refrigerate and freeze your portions. In fact, why not cook two or three meals in one go. It will minimize the amount of time you need to spend in the kitchen. You can even make it a family affair and get everyone in the house to help prepare a dish.
Chop up that garlic
Chopping garlic can be done in advance. It will keep for about a week in the refrigerator and for up to one year in the freezer. So chop it in bulk and have it ready in the fridge for when you need it. It will add some oomph to those vegetables and reduce the time it takes to prepare your meals.
Cook enough for leftovers
If you find you don’t have time to cook for the whole week, then prepare enough, so there is at least enough food for the day night. If you know you have chicken or salmon left over, then plan to do something creative with it. Less prep time for the next night ahead and another delicious meal in the mix. Vegetables can easily be roasted in advance, and salad can be prepared for the week ahead.
Buy food containers
Prepping takes some commitment, so if you plan to do it, be ready. It will help if you can buy some containers to keep your food in, so you know exactly what needs to be done the next day, if anything. Or perhaps it’s just a case of grabbing a container to go. Many containers are nestable, meaning they can sit easily on top of one another in your fridge or bag.
