I would like to preface this information by saying that sticking to the FIT guidelines, and adhering to the "Eat This, Not That" is recommended and preferred so that you do not halt your current weight loss achievements. We do understand however, that certain concessions may be made this Thanksgiving and we want to help you come up with a strategy and give you a game plan so you have healthier options. With the changes laid out below to the"traditional" turkey day dinner, you limit your carbohydrate intake and thereby limit fat storage and decrease the negative affects.
Pick your Low-Carb favorites - Go through your memory bank and recall side dishes and appetizers that are lower in carbohydrates. Think about family favorites and choose ones that are lower in carbs and sugars and integrate those into your yearly tradition going forward.

Cut out the traditional side dishes or elements of them. If you can’t give up yams, cook them without the giant pile of marshmallows on them. You can add salt, pepper and butter to the yams and they will still be delicious! Substitute out the casserole for a non-breaded option, you can have green beans with almonds, make sautéed mushrooms and season to taste or even have a salad with a light vinaigrette dressing!
Cut out the carbohydrate based munchies before dinner. There is no need for added carbohydrates before the meal. Use vegetables such as carrots, cucumbers or broccoli with a 0 calorie, 0 carb, 0 sugar ranch dressing from Walden Farms. Instead of putting out chips and Chex mix put out peanuts, almonds, cashews or pecans.
You can make a low carb relish tray for the table and include dill pickle spears or chips, olives, Italian hot peppers, radish blossoms, carrots and celery sticks.
Lastly make a list of foods you absolutely cannot do without and try to substitute ingredients to decrease the sugar and carbohydrates.
At FIT Medical Weight Loss we realize there a ton of temptations this holiday season, but the key is to do the research beforehand and take the time to come up with a game plan so that you give yourself the best chance to succeed and continue to progress towards your weight loss goals.
