The end of the year is coming up fast, and all too soon you will be celebrating the beginning of a new year. And with the start of the New Year comes a whole new set of New Year’s resolutions? What’s on your list? Weight loss? More exercise? Get healthy? All of the above? Here are our top tips to ensure you stick to those goals and succeed.
Write them down
It is all well and good creating a goal, but if you are not serious about it, then it won’t work. Make a dedicated plan and then stick to it. Write down your goals – post them on the fridge or your mirror, and make them your priority. Understand the reasoning behind those goals. Do you want to spend more quality time with your grandkids? Do you want to fit into a smaller dress size? Do you want to have more energy? Focus on your why and remind yourself each time you look at the fridge or your mirror, what you have to do to get there.

Schedule the time
Once you understand what your goals are, then schedule the time to make it happen. If you need to weigh in every week, then make the time to do that. If you want to attend an exercise class or do yoga at home, then schedule that time and make it a priority. If you don’t give yourself the time to do it, then you will have little chance of succeeding.
Be realistic
Aiming to lose 100 pounds in a year may not be so practical. So rather than quantify your aim, keep the overall goal in mind. If you want to lose weight, focus on eating healthy and doing more exercise to help you achieve it. Some weeks you will lose more than others so as long as you are heading in the right direction and can see consistent improvement, then smile. You are doing great!
Find a support network
Tackling a resolution with a reliable support network will make it easier. If you get to the end of January and are sticking to your goals, then reward yourself in some small way. The same goes for February, March - right through to December. Sometimes we need mini incentives to keep us focused, so choose something fun and celebrate your wins. Share the successes with your friends and that support network you have in place. The more the merrier!
Get inspired
What will it take to inspire you? Write a journal or read inspirational books. Take photos of you each week and pin them on your fridge. Post inspirational mantras around your home – whatever it takes you keep you focused and motivated. We all need something to boost our confidence from time and time and sometimes it may come from outside sources. Whatever it takes to win!
