There are a few reasons that too much screen time can affect your weight. Here's three that make a whole lot of sense.

 

  • It makes us feel tired. Spending time staring at your phone, tablet, or computer slows you down and makes you tired. This will kill your motivation to exercise.
  • It's a time-waster. Have you noticed that time seems to fly when you are staring at your phone? This is valuable time you could be spending working on your health.
  • We encounter temptations, such as unhealthy foods. Have you ever seen one of these videos on your social media timelines? Those food-centric videos look delicious but can lead to unhealthy eating.


You can make a great first step towards weight loss by cutting screen time. Here are some ways to reduce the time spent on your phones and computers.

  • Have a screen time counter. It's a good idea to know how much time you're spending on your mobile devices, day-to-day. With this information, you can set goals and work towards reducing screen time.
  • Leave your phone in the other room. Not having your screens close to you at all times will make it that much harder to fall into temptations.
  • Remember your priorities. Remember why you want to cut screen time. Weight loss is one of your reasons, but there are others as well. Time with family, or simply time better spent should be a great motivator.
