I really think it's time we change the way we approach our New Year's resolutions. While it is a positive and motivational tactic to give yourself a goal, we need to set a target that can be doable, even on the most difficult of days. If you intend to lose weight, eat healthier or fit into your little black dress, perhaps it is time you looked at it from a different perspective. Let's break it down a little and look at some goals which are definitely more achievable and will help you meet your weight loss or health issue goals.
Boost your Omega-3
Omega-3 is an essential fatty acid that can be found in tuna, salmon, sardines, and mackerel. Ideally, you should eat at least two servings of fish a week to help you improve your mood, help with joint pain and aid your sleep patterns. Opting for a resolution such as increasing omega-3 in your diet can be done whether you are eating in or dining out. It is necessary for our health, particularly women, who tend to lack Omega-3 in their diet more so than their male counterparts. If you are a vegan, vegetarian or just dislike fish, it is important to know where else you can source your Omega-3 from. Look out for walnuts, flaxseed, walnuts, basil, eggs, broccoli, cashews, Brussels sprouts, seaweed, soybeans, and spinach.

Enjoy more vegetables
I am always amazed when I hear someone mutter the fact that they don't eat vegetables. There are such a wide variety of vegetables that I cannot imagine them all being labeled as one type of food. You may not like spinach, but perhaps you could be tempted by mashed squash or grilled eggplant. Maybe it's just a case of experimenting until you find something you like. Make it your new year's resolution to widen your vegetable repertoire so you can add some more vegetable-rich dishes into your weekly menu. Roasting vegetables is such a simple act that it literally requires just the chopping of vegetables and a sprinkling of your desired herbs and spices.
Swap treats for low-sugar options
It is super easy to consume too much sugar. It only takes a cup of sweetened coffee, and a cookie on the side and you have probably already gone over your daily sugar allowance. If you make it a resolution to reduce your sugar intake, then you are doing a huge thing for your health. Reducing sugar will not only help you lose weight, but it will also reduce your blood pressure, decrease heart attack risk and improve the quality of your skin. Opt for no-sugar treats and swap out sugar for sweetener if necessary, or give it up altogether. Once you wean yourself off the sweet stuff, your taste buds will get used to the new flavors, and there will be no turning back.
