Pasta Replacement: Zoodles and More

What is the hardest thing to give up with a new diet? For many people, its the comfort of a great pasta, especially as the season changes and it gets colder. Don't worry - you are in luck! Here are three ways to substitute carb-loaded pastas with healthier alternatives. Try each of them and decide which one is for you!

  • Zoodles. Short for "zucchini noodles" - these long strings of vegetable are great for soaking up the flavors of a great sauce. They are easy to cook and can also be purchased prepackaged. There are a few other ways to turn veggies into noodles - but none more popular than this.
  • Spaghetti Squash. This large, giant squash can be baked, cut open, and shredded into pasta-like strands that become a versatile delivery method for delicious creations. It can be eaten simply with a little salt and pepper, tossed in some oil and garlic, or covered with your favorite pasta sauce.
  • Shirataki Noodles. These noodles are referred to as "miracle noodles" for good reason. These noodles are zero carb and zero calorie. You may have to shop around to find them, but turn out great to cook with. For best results, be sure to rinse them before cooking.
