Sometimes, it's not what you eat, but how much you eat. Members of FIT Medical Weight Loss will be provided information on what should and should not be eaten. For the "gray areas" in between, controlling how much you eat goes a long way to make your dieting effective. Here are a four tips to help control the portion size of your food.
1. Drink a glass of water first. Water has qualities that will help you feel fuller, faster, without any added calories.
2. Use smaller dinnerware. A small amount of food on a large plate will mentally reinforce the idea that you are cutting back on the amount of food you eat. Use smaller dinnerware so that you are still filling the plate that you are eating off of.
3. Eat slowly. Often times, it takes awhile to get that "full" feeling. If you take your time eating, it gives your body time to let you know that you are full before you've eaten too much.
4. Eat your veggies first. If you eat the healthier items on your plate first, there's more of a chance of you filling up on those items and eating less of the more carb-forward items.
By understanding the caloric costs of each item of food that we eat and being able to control the size of each portion, you will be able to expand your diet and keep your eating more interesting.
