As the weather improves, our minds are focused on the holiday season ahead. While the stores are filled with pretty florals and stunning fabrics, you want to ensure that what fits at the beginning of the summer season still fits come fall when the leaves start to fall off the trees. This can sometimes be difficult when you are travelling or planning some kind of long-term holiday and intend to lose weight or even maintain it. While you don’t want to sacrifice your annual vacation, you can certainly still enjoy your time without resorting to unhealthy choices.
Eat Fresh
Eating a range of fresh and healthy food is the best way to stick to your weight loss goals. Aim for a variety of colorful vegetables as the basis of your meal and add fresh protein where possible. Try to avoid packaged and processed food if you can. When, in doubt, fresh is always best.

Stay Active
Holidays are certainly for relaxing but that does not mean that you must forego all exercise. Sitting by the pool all summer holidays can be broken up with swimming and long evening walks either before or after dinner (or both). Enjoy this time of year and celebrate the warmer weather.
Opt for extra activities
There are always summer activities that can be added to your itinerary. Try to do something which involves exerting a little more energy such as hiking, kayaking or snorkeling. Water activities are a great way to increase your exercise levels while remaining cool.
Say no to the bread basket
When you dine out there is often a complimentary salsa and chips, or bread basket, on offer. Send it back to avoid temptation and opt for a healthier starter such as a salad. The longer it sits there, the harder it is to say no.
Slow down
Holidays work at a slower pace than normal. Therefore slow down and enjoy the food in front of you. There is no need to rush through your meal. Savor every bite and let your body tell you when you have had enough.
Drink water
Make sure that you drink as much water as possible and try to keep those alcohol beverages to a minimum. Sugary mocktails and cocktails can be problematic for your weight loss attempts. Therefore say no to the mojitos and piña coladas and sip on water where possible. It will also help fill you up in between meals and reduce the need to snack.
