Why you aren't losing weight: Six reasons why the pounds aren't going away

Is anything more frustrating than working hard to lose weight, but not seeing the benefits? You suffer so much and give up a lot to get to where you need to be, and it's awful when you don't see the results you need. Here are six reasons why you may not be losing the weight that you are working toward. Which one of these is slowing you down?

  1. Not getting enough sleep. If you aren't getting at least 7 hours of sleep per night, you are making it harder on yourself to lose weight. Your body needs rest to make the changes that you are looking for.
  2. Not drinking enough water. Hydrating your body does a number of different things to help you lose weight. Make sure that you are getting enough water throughout the day - especially during your workouts.
  3. Underlying health issues. It may be your genes or it may be an illness - but many times, not being able to lose weight may not be your fault. Make sure you are getting your yearly physical and seek additional help from a doctor if you are having issues losing weight.
  4. Not tracking food intake. Many of us will plan on "eating healthy" and making wise choices without truly tracking what we eat. Hidden calories or selective "remembering" what we eat can hurt us more than it helps us.
  5. Too much alcohol intake. Alcohol is loaded with both calories and carbohydrates. Even worse, it impairs our ability to make wise choices. There may be few things that taste better than a pizza after a few beers, but the combination of the two will certainly set you back.
  6. You are stressed out. Stress makes it harder for us to lose the weight we need. It makes it harder for us to get out of bed and get to working out - and it makes us less motivated to eat the right things. Your mental health has a great effect on your physical health.
